DeMaria’s Grocer

DeMaria’s Grocer is a contemporary spin of a traditional European marketplace. A welcoming space that allows the customer to dwell and explore where it is like strolling down their own local food pantry in a very casual setting, creating a novel retail experience.

DeMaria’s Grocer incorporates fresh produce, delicatessen, florist, and groceries located within a recently established mixed-use development, Richmond Traders.

The brief was to create a modern fresh food offering for locals, providing a one-stop destination in the heart of a Market Hall Precinct.

The design needed to overcome the constraints associated with retrofitting three separate tenancies, while unified as one brand as a fresh and cohesive retail identity which would competitively differentiate their business within its new mixed-use setting.

The successful outcome was achieved through ongoing collaboration with the client to establish an open marketplace concept where boundaries are blurred based on detailed understanding of their business operations.

We created a layered and abundant destination that appeals to the senses and provides authentic, diverse food experiences and opportunities to dwell.

Challenging the traditional marketplace setting where customers are served through the stalls, we wanted the customer to be in the action, strolling down their own local food pantry in a very casual setting.

It is a place that celebrates food, quintessentially a traditional market with a modern sensibility that makes it an ideal template for how appealing and efficient food retailing can be.
